How to apply

We accept applications only during open calls, and proposals must be submitted through our digital application system. We’re happy to answer questions and help you assess fit before you apply.

Assessment criteria

  • Fit with our grant-making criteria. The primary basis for assessment is how clearly and effectively the project aligns with Signatur’s grant-making criteria and objectives.
  • Ability to deliver and report. We also assess whether the organisation has the stability, systems and capacity required to manage the project and meet our reporting, financial and communication requirements.

Decisions and agreements

In January-February Signatur’s board decides which projects will receive funding in that year’s Signatur Programme, and new projects can start on 1 March at the earliest.

Grant Making Criteria

Signatur can only provide funding to projects and partners whose aims are consistent the objectives of the foundation, as defined in Signatur’s founding articles. This includes work that:

Strengthens music education

Supporting high-quality learning and artistic development.

Expands access to great music

Creating more opportunities for the public to experience high-quality music.

Broadens participation

Reaching new audiences and widening who takes part in cultural life.

Supports cultural integration

Using the arts to build connection across communities and cultures.

Includes other performing arts

Dance, ballet and theatre projects are also eligible for support.

Who can apply?

To be eligible for funding, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

Registered, not-for-profit organisations

Applicants must be legal entities operating for public benefit, such as registered charities or equivalent not-for-profit organisations.

Organisations take legal responsibility

The applicant organisation must be willing and able to take full legal responsibility for the project, including financial management, reporting and communication with Signatur.

Projects, not core operations

We fund clearly defined, time-limited projects. Funding is not available for an organisation’s regular or ongoing operational costs.

Professional activities

Projects must be delivered by professional artists, educators or practitioners. We do not fund purely amateur or informal initiatives.

Individuals must apply via an organisation

We do not fund individuals directly. Individuals seeking support must work with a suitable non-profit organisation that is willing to host the project and submit the application.
