Gränslandet – a symphonic festival at Trädgården 2018
On august 24 and 25 2018 some of classical music’s most mythical masterpieces filled Trädgården with a 60 person symphony orchestra.
The project was implemented with support from Swedish Performing Arts Agency, Swedish Arts Council, Stockholm County Council, City of Stockholm and Signatur Foundation Sweden.
Two days, two nights that wove together classical music, minimalism, electro and interactive arts in the middle of the city jungle. With the summer warmth, the area under the Skanstull bridge was transformed into an exuberant cultural bonanza and harvest celebration with locally produced food and drinks.
The festival offered guest artists such as El Perro del Mar and Loney Dear for the first time with the symphony orchestra and two of classical music’s most mythical masterpieces; Beethoven’s Fifth and Elvira Madigan – the Mozart piano concerto – were performed together with modern masterpieces such as last year’s favourite Max Richter’s Vivaldi Recomposed, Anders Hillborg’s voice epic … lontana in sonno…, Dutch legend in minimalism Louis Andriessen’s Hoketus, Puksånger, Lockrop by Karin Rehnqvist and Kate Moore´s ECM-album Dances and Canons live with Saskia Lankhoorn.
During late evenings and nights the festival was transformed into a unique club atmosphere where the audience could dance to the electro dance music or settle into one of the smaller, more intimate rooms to listen to chamber music until the early hours of the morning.
The interactive contemporary art was curated by Den Nya Akademien – Livsbistron.
The initiators of the Gränslandet festival were pianist David Huang, conductor Christian Karlsen and the venue operators Trädgården and it was produced by the association ALMA in cooperation with Bohm Bohm Room.
